{"id":67,"date":"2018-07-12T02:44:22","date_gmt":"2018-07-12T02:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/?page_id=67"},"modified":"2026-05-13T20:48:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T20:48:10","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/?page_id=67","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A Journey with Christ<\/h2>\n<p><em><strong>While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and walked with them. &#8211; Luke 24:15<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God\u2019s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers.<\/p>\n<p>The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with the prayerful discernment and invitation from a sponsor.\u00a0 After one accepts this invitation they complete an application.\u00a0 The Emmaus leaders prayerfully consider each applicant and in God\u2019s time, the person is invited to attend a three-day experience of New Testament Christianity as a lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Following the three-day experience, participants are joined in small groups to support each other in their ongoing walk with Christ.<\/p>\n<p>Through the formational process of accountable discipleship in small groups and participation in the Emmaus community, each participant\u2019s individual gifts and servant-leadership skills are developed for use in the local church and its mission.\u00a0 Participants are encouraged to find ways to live out their individual call to discipleship in their home, church, and community.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip the local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, communities and places of work.\u00a0 Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.<\/p>\n<p>What happens on the Emmaus Weekend?<\/p>\n<p>You will enjoy three days of singing, learning, laughing, worshiping, reflecting, praying and participating in small groups.\u00a0 Discussions center around fifteen talks given by laity and clergy.\u00a0 These talks present the theme of God\u2019s grace, how that grace comes alive in the Christian community and how it is expressed in the world.\u00a0 You\u2019ll also discover how grace is real in your life, how you live a life of grace, and how you bring that grace to others.<\/p>\n<p>You will have the opportunity to participate in the daily celebration of Holy Communion and to understand more fully the body of Christ.\u00a0 You will experience God\u2019s grace through the prayers and acts of anonymous service offered by the Emmaus community.\u00a0 You will leave with an experience of Christian love in action that will equip you for new levels of grace-filled service and leadership.<\/p>\n<h3>What Happens After the Emmaus Weekend?<\/h3>\n<p>You are invited to have a closer walk with Christ for the rest of your life; this is called the Fourth Day.\u00a0 Those who attend a Walk to Emmaus are encouraged to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expand their own spiritual lives through worship, study and active participation in their local church<\/li>\n<li>Become more active disciples of Christ in service to the world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To nurture this process of discipleship, the Emmaus movement offers specific opportunities.\u00a0 First, groups of four to six people meet weekly to reflect on their spiritual journey and encourage one another in accountable discipleship.\u00a0 Second, there are monthly community gatherings where Emmaus participants meet for fellowship, worship and instruction.\u00a0 Third, community members are regularly informed of the support needs of upcoming Walk to Emmaus weekends, and other opportunities for servant leadership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Journey with Christ While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and walked with them. &#8211; Luke 24:15 The walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short<span class=\"ellipsis\">&hellip;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"read-more\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/?page_id=67\">Read more <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">About<\/span><span class=\"meta-nav\"> &#8250;<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><!-- end of .read-more --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-67","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/67","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=67"}],"version-history":[{"count":20,"href":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/67\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1913,"href":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/67\/revisions\/1913"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nkemmaus.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=67"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
